Inclusive theatre charity, Head2Head Sensory Theatre, has been awarded a grant of £2,000 from the Community Foundation for Surrey to help run drama workshops for young disabled people in the community. 

The volunteer-led theatre charity has recently moved into Oxted’s Drewshearne Barn and is planning to raise enough funds to run new drama workshops for young disabled students.  

The finished venue will also facilitate more work experience and paid opportunities to encourage young disabled people to socialise and help enrich their lives. 

Head2Head Sensory Theatre Founder, Anni Rhodes-Steere said: “We are thrilled to have the support from Community Foundation for Surrey. Many people with disabilities struggle to find a way into the world of performing arts and we want to open these doors to them.  Our workshops will give them the confidence, experience and courage to look positively into a future working in theatre.” 

A spokesperson for the Community Foundation for Surrey said: “The Community Foundation for Surrey has supported Head2Head Sensory Theatre for many years with awards being made from several of our Donor Funds. We are delighted to have secured funding for their SEN Drama programme from the Tandridge Community Fund; an Area Fund supporting social action and community needs at a local level in Tandridge. We are confident in the objectives and abilities of all those at Head2Head; their dedication and passion is heart-warming. On behalf of our Donors, we look forward to hearing about the difference this project will make to the lives of young people, regardless of their abilities or challenges.” 

The charity, which was established in 2006, has been creating inclusive theatre experiences for everyone to enjoy and gives young people with disabilities access to the world through drama. Their shows are accessible to everyone.

Drama workshops for disabled

Our volunteer-led charity wishes to expand our Work Experience Programme to enable more young people with disabilities to gain work experience. We can only do this by raising money to fund accredited drama workshops ran by an experienced drama facilitator. Every year this programme enriches the lives of young disabled people, providing them with the skills necessary to gain employment within theatre or film or to enroll them onto additional drama courses.

Impact

Running these new drama workshops for disabled young people in the community, will give them the experience of theatre for the very first time. An experience which will give them confidence and skills to prepare them for a potential career in theatre or film.
