The cause
Head2Head Theatre, a volunteer-led charity in Oxted, brings the magic of theatre into the lives of disabled children and their families. We are reaching out for additional support to help create a new Centre for local and special needs’ community in Oxted.
The situation
Our charity is currently based in an old milking barn on the outskirts of Oxted. Our local community has been really supportive with fundraising and volunteering. Recently their local meeting point was closed down and we wish to push forward plans to make our barn accessible for all so that residents may meet in a warm, safe environment.
The barn has no ceilings or draught-proof windows and the heating system is not environmentally friendly. One room is kept warm with an oil-fired heater but other rooms are freezing cold.
At present the premises can only be used for office, storage, rehearsal and filming but there is potential for the space to be used by local residents for social gatherings, meetings, fairs and group classes for yoga and mother-toddler users.
What has been achieved so far
Since moving into the barn in December 2021 our charity has raised funds to put up curtains, fireproof doors, paint walls and, thanks to support from The Wooden Spoon Fund and local firms, is currently in the process of creating a hygiene room that wheelchair users may use in comfort and dignity.
Local and corporate volunteers are also helping with painting, gardening and carpentry and, while they have achieved a lot, there is still so much more to be done before our charity can open its doors to the local and special needs’ community.
The outcome of your support
In addition to opening our doors as a new Centre for local and special needs’ community once we have a fit-for-purpose base, we can extend our Work Experience Programme for young disabled people and run in-house workshops.
If you’d like to volunteer for us or fundraise your local group or business, please contact us for support.
The good work and future of Head2Head is only possible thanks to our amazing supporters. With your kind donations and JustGiving Fundraising, we can continue and expand our services to help children and young people within the special needs and disabilities enjoy the magic of theatre.
