Head2Head Sensory Theatre have finally found a uniquely designed base in Oxted, Surrey, from which to produce their ground-breaking work. This will provide an innovative, arts-focussed learning space and life skills arena for students transitioning from special school education. 

The new building will be based in Drewsherne Barn, Oxted, Surrey and the charity are hoping to raise £122,500 from their supporters and the community in order to make the dream a reality.  

Head2Head Founder Anni Rhodes-Steere said: “Since 2006 Head2Head Sensory Theatre has been at the forefront of creating inclusive theatre opportunities for children and young people with a wide range of disabilities. Our unique projects encourage participants and their families to take risks by working in small groups of peers and with neurotypical siblings to increase confidence and widen social interaction and skills. Our mission is to continue to help generations of disabled children and their families to discover the joy and creativity of the world of theatre.” 

As a response to the COVID 19 lockdowns, the Head2Head artistic team has also been creating online accessible and interactive shows and games for families in isolation. This has meant that the charity has become a valuable resource for a whole new audience, not only across the UK but also around the world. 

Speaking as a patron for Head2Head Sensory Theatre, broadcaster and disability rights activist, Samantha Renke said:  “Head2Head is a volunteer charity that is as wonderfully unique as the families it supports and entertains. Since 2006 Head2Head has been bringing the magic of theatre into the lives of children whose learning difficulties can make a trip to the theatre challenging or even impossible.” 

“We have responded to COVID by creating online, interactive sensory shows and activities, but it is impossible to keep operating from the homes of our volunteers. We need a specific base from which to reach out and help even more young people.”
