How to prepare for TV show
Following her recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Head2Head Sensory Theatre’s Trustee Ciara Lawrence and learning disabilities advocate, shares her experience on how to prepare for a TV show.
- How did you get this opportunity?
“I’m fortunate enough to have some contacts who work in broadcast at ITV.”
- How did you prepare for the show?
“I prepared for the show by agreeing what I would say with my media team colleagues at charity Mencap and the producer of the interview feature at Lorraine and researching the key messages for the subjects I wanted to talk about which were mainly about my podcast, Mencap and learning disability!”
- What would you have done differently on the day?
“If I had more time during my interview, I would have mentioned all of the charities that I have an amazing voluntary roles with and all the work I do, but it isn’t always possible to say everything you want to when you are being interviewed.
- What was the best thing about the experience?
“The best thing about my experience was getting to talk about my podcast and all my interview guests to date. I also got to meet Christine Lampard, and she welcomed me and really put me at ease before my interview which really helped. I also got to meet radio DJ Nick Grimshaw and the TV gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh!”
- What tips would you give to someone who is about to go on TV for the first time about how to prepare for TV show?
- Know the subject you want to talk about and get someone to support you to think about this
- Research the subject and have some knowledge and experience of it
- Before the interview, think about key questions you might get asked during
- Always find out how long you are going to have to speak during the interview so you can practise your answers!
