National Lottery Grant Funds Refurbishment of The Barn Hub to Launch Memory Café in Oxted, Surrey

Accessible theatre charity in Oxted, Head2Head Sensory Theatre, has received a generous grant of £20,000 from The National Lottery Fund to complete a vital refurbishment project for the community of Oxted in Surrey.

The funding will prepare the space for the launch of the Memory Café, which opens its doors on Wednesday 9th October. The Cafe will offer stimulating and engaging activities that promote connection and well-being for people living with dementia and their carers.

Anni Rhodes-Steere, founder of Head2Head Sensory Theatre said: “We are thrilled to have received this funding from The National Lottery. It will help us create a truly inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, regardless of their abilities. We look forward to welcoming our community to these new and improved facilities and seeing the positive difference they will make in people’s lives.”

The refurbishment will extend The Barn Hub’s current facilities to offer a range of additional services that will greatly benefit the local community. These will include:

  • Drop-in centre for families of children with disabilities, providing a supportive environment for families to meet and access resources.
  • ‘Transitions into Employment’ programme, where students with learning disabilities can volunteer in the café and take part in entertainment, gaining valuable work experience and social skills.
  • Small stage platform for solo artists, giving a platform for local talent.
  • Large stage platform with a wheelchair ramp, ensuring full accessibility for disability groups to perform and participate.
  • Interactive projection system, which will encourage people with learning disabilities or dementia to engage in challenging and social activities.
  • Practical kitchen safety and cookery sessions, specifically designed for people living with dementia or learning disabilities, to enhance their independence and skills.
